Swedish Covenant named one of America's highest quality hospitals

Swedish Covenant Hospital is the only Chicago hospital and one of only 36 facilities nationwide to be honored with the prestigious 2005 Hospital of Choice Award by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers (AAHCP). Other winners this year include UCLA Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Winning hospitals must display a remarkable effort toward quality care; patient, family and physician satisfaction; and community service, according to the AAHCP.
Facilities are judged on the AAHCP's 10-point criteria in professional ethics, standards of conduct, patients' rights, performance management, staff development and communication systems.
"We are honored to be in the company of some of the nation's most prestigious healthcare facilities," said Mark Newton, president and chief executive officer of Swedish Covenant Hospital. "This award recognizes the strides we've made in patient-centered care and our recent affiliation with the Planetree Alliance, a national organization of hospitals dedicated to the care of the whole patient — body, mind, and spirit. We are committed to maintaining patient satisfaction at the highest level."
Swedish Covenant also recently was named one of the Healthiest Companies in America by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA).
The AAHCP, which launched the Hospital of Choice Awards four years ago, was established to find practical, effective and efficient ways to improve patient care in the American healthcare system.
Swedish Covenant Hospital is a comprehensive healthcare facility providing health and wellness services to the communities of Chicago's North Side. As one of the few independent, nonprofit hospitals in the area, Swedish Covenant Hospital remains focused on its mission of compassionate care. More than 500 physicians join the Hospital's nurses and professional staff to strengthen a foundation of excellence established more than 117 years ago into a tradition that will endure.
