Understanding new zoning laws
The City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development is inviting community organizations, leaders, and citizens to attend local meetings to get a better understanding of the new zoning laws and how they will impact their neighborhoods. The next meeting will be Thursday, March 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Truman College Cafeteria, 1145 W. Wilson Ave. Another meeting will be held Thursday, April 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. These meetings are an important opportunity to learn about the new zoning, including the process and schedule for updating neighborhood-zoning maps. Please contact Tim Barton of the Department of Planning and Development’s staff at (312) 744-0416 to RSVP.

Possible senior housing for Ravenswood Ave.
City Council is considering an ordinance that would give the go ahead to issue $25 million in tax-exempt bonds for an 187-unit affordable housing apartment complex for seniors to be build in the City’s West Ridge Community.
The proposed facility will be located at 6000 N. Ravenswood Ave. in the 40th Ward. All units will be made affordable to households with incomes below 80 percent of the area median, including 116 units serving households with incomes below 60 percent of median income.

In favor of al fresco
Ald. Vi Daley (43rd) has proposed that sidewalk cafes be permitted to begin operating March 1 — instead of April 1 — and be permitted to continue operating until Dec. 1— instead of Nov. 1, thus adding two months to the outdoor cafe season. The proposal is under consideration by the City Council.
