Department of Buildings Commissioner Stan Kaderbek ordered the second floor of a North Side motel closed after an inspection that found dangerously deteriorated stairs, walkways and balconies. The second floor of the Lincoln Inn Motel, 5952 N. Lincoln Ave., was ordered closed March 3 by the Department of Buildings after Kaderbek and building inspectors surveyed the building.
"The motel’s stairways and balconies are seriously deteriorated, and are in imminently dangerous and hazardous conditions," he said. "The second floor must not be used until these problems are repaired.
The motel was posted with Department of Buildings closure notices, which clearly state that the second floor areas are to remain closed and unoccupied. The motel owners were cited for several building code violations, and a complaint was filed in the Cook County Housing Court.
Each year, the Department of Buildings receives thousands of complaints about dangerous and hazardous conditions of buildings. To report dangerous or hazardous building conditions, call the City’s 311 Call center by dialing "311," or TTY (312) 744-6599. |
