The City Council has approved a measure authorizing the City of Chicago to extend its lease with the Chicago Park District on the closed portion of the public way at the intersection of N. Halsted Street and W. Wisconsin Street. The lease will now extend for the next 99 years.
Under the plan, the Park District will expand upon its beautification program for the 800 W. Wisconsin St. site through the development and maintenance of a small community open space. It also calls for recreational development of the land with the installation of playground equipment.
"This is an innovative use of public space that accomplishes two important goals," said Mayor Richard M. Daley. "It serves to beautify the community and at the same time provides area children with a safe play-space through the creation of a new recreational facility."
In June 2002, the City Council approved a five-year lease of the site to the Park District for a beautification program. |
