A City of Chicago ordinance penalizing the illegal sale or illegal purchase of all residential parking permits became effective April 1. Any party besides the City of Chicago or an agent of the City who offers or solicits the sale of a residential parking permit faces fines from $200 to $500.
The prohibition applies to permits issued under any residential parking permit program, including residential parking permits, one-day guest permits and baseball game parking permits.
In light of the baseball season, the City is reminding motorists of the parking restrictions near and around Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular Field. Motorists who park near Wrigley Field are required to display a residential parking permit or night game parking permit. In the vicinity of U.S. Cellular Field, special baseball parking permits are required during all baseball games.
Vehicles that do not display the required permits may be ticketed and towed.
"We want to ensure that game visitors understand the parking restrictions so they can have an enjoyable experience. We also want to advise local residents of the additional enforcement measures being taken this year," said Bea Reyna-Hickey, Director of the Chicago Department of Revenue.
Game parking permits and guest passes are initially distributed by mail to residents of the 11th, 32nd, 44th, 46th, and 47th wards near U.S. Cellular Field or Wrigley Field. Residents who are new to the community, have recently purchased a car, or did not receive parking permits through the mail, or who need additional guest permits, should contact their local alderman's office. Motorists parking within parking permit zone LV2 or other parking permit zones should be sure to display a valid night game parking permit and/or the required residential parking permits when parking on the street.
Any person attempting to illegally sell parking permits or passes to game visitors will risk fines of up to $500. In addition, visitors who purchase illegal parking passes face similar fines. To report an incidence of abuse, residents near Wrigley Field should call the hotline at 866-4-CPD-TOW (866-427-3869). Residents near U.S. Cellular Field should call 911 to report abuses.
