Judith Namugwe, 27, of the 900 block of W. Lawrence Ave., was apparently stabbed to death by an unknown assailant at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in her apartment building.
According to police reports, Namugwe came home at 9 p.m., checked her mail on the first floor and took the building’s rear elevator to the 12th floor, where she encountered the offender.
Witnesses heard a woman’s scream out in the hallway, then a loud noise, then the sound of someone running and a door opening and slamming shut, police reports state.
Namugwe was found face down in the hallway, with a puncture wound to the chest and a cut above her left wrist. Miscellaneous change and a pen were found scattered nearby.
A search of the building revealed a knife in the stairwell near the fourth floor, as well as a cigarette butt and a nickel between the ninth and tenth floor, according to a report. The case was still under investigation, and no suspects were in custody, Mohr said.
Three teenage boys were seriously wounded when a young man fired at them at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the 600 block of N. Ada St.
Police said the three were standing on a porch when an unknown man ran toward them from an alley, shouted at them, and fired several rounds, then fled through the alley. In all, five rounds struck the victims.
The shooter was described as an 18- to 21-year-old Hispanic male, 5’7”-5’9”, with a medium complexion, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and an orange bandana, Mohr said.
A 13-year-old victim suffered three gunshot wounds to his left and right shoulders and lower left calf and was taken to Cook County Hospital in serious condition. The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were wounded in the right hip and left calf, respectively, and taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
The shooting was still under investigation Tuesday, Mohr said.
