Simon Preston, former organist at Westminster Abbey, will lead a 100-voice string chorus, accompanied by a majestic ensemble of organ, percussion and 10 brasses, to close the William Ferris Chorale’s concert season. The Chorale will be joined by the choirs of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Thomas Weisflog is the organist.
The concert is on Friday, April 29, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 690 W. Belmont Ave.
Belgian composer Joseph Jongen’s magnificent Mass, Opus 130, composed in 1945 and scored for a massive brass ensemble and organ, is the central offering in a program of works by Bach, Palestrina, Victoria, Stravinsky, Peeters, Widor and Ferris.
