Students in Roosevelt University’s English Language Program sold raffle tickets, raising more than $1,000, which was donated this month to help survivors of the tsunami which hit southeast Asia in December 2004.
A check for $1,170 was donated to the International Association of Human Values, a group that works with the United Nations to help those in need by organizing stress relief programs, rebuilding homes, providing food, medical help and clothing, and adopting orphanages to help feed children.
The idea to raise money for tsunami aid came from the program’s students, many whom are from Thailand, one of the countries hit in the disaster.
Offering academic English as a Second Language classes at the undergraduate levels, the English Language Program is open to non-native speakers seeking both credit and non-credit training. Many of the students in the program are on full-time student visas.
Students in the program partnered with students in Roosevelt’s International Student Union and Student Activities Office to raise funds for tsunami relief. For more information on the program, contact Jane Curtis at (312) 341-2062. |
