| Elizabeth Buccheri, Sylvia Wang as duo pianists
Two celebrated pianists and long-time collaborators and friends, Elizabeth Buccheri (left) and Sylvia Wang, will perform Friday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. in North Park University’s Anderson Chapel, 3225 W. Foster Ave. Wang and Buccheri will pay tribute to musical greats both contemporary and classical as they perform "Liana’s Song" by David Burge, "Sonata for Two Pianos" by Igor Stravinsky, and "Hallelujah Junction" by John Adams. Bach Cantata Series
The Bach Cantata Series at the Church of Saint Luke was created to share with local music lovers the Church's hospitable liturgical and musical setting as a natural home for these great choral works. The next in the free series takes place Sunday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 1500 W. Belmont Ave. Professional soloists and instrumentalists join the Bach choir of Saint Luke under the direction of Dr. Mark Bangert for presentations of selected cantatas in the context of sung Vespers. The church is wheelchair accessible and free parking is available in the adjoining lot.
CAPS Beat 1911
All concerned citizens residing between Lawrence and Montrose avenues and Damen Ave. and the river are invited to attend the next Beat 1911 Meeting on Tuesday, April 26, on the sixth floor at Kindred Hospital, 2544 W. | Moery joins Harrington College of Design
Kathryn Moery recently joined the Harrington College of Design as the executive director of academic services. She is responsible for overseeing the registrar, student services and academic advising areas. Prior to joining Harrington, Moery worked as the dean of academic services at DeVry University. Moery serves on the board of advisors for Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Chicago, and the Family Resource Center on Disabilities, Chicago.
Located at 200 W. Madison St., Harrington is a four-year college that offers flexible scheduling for a bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design, an associate of applied science degree in interior design or digital photography, a professional interior design diploma, and a kitchen and bath certificate program. |

Classical Symphony Orchestra
The Classical Symphony Orchestra of Chicago will present a free concert Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m., with Music Director Joseph Glymph playing violin in Haydn's "Duet No. 1 in E Major." Surreal swimmers
Jean Albano gallery offers a solo exhibition of new paintings by Luciana Abait, an Argentinean native, April 22 - May 28. The gallery will host a reception for the artist on Friday, April 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 215 W. Superior St. Abait's paintings explore themes of presence and absence through architectural landscapes found underwater in swimming pools. Swimmers are presented as anonymous simple beings, insect-like, moving across vast liquid masses. Light creates surreal and theatrical atmospheres. Writing Family History
Learn how to compile a family history that you can share with others. Mike Karsen is a professional genealogy speaker and instructor who speaks locally and nationally. He is on the faculty of the National Institute for Genealogical Studies. He’ll speak in Newberry Library-Fellows Lounge, 60 W. Walton St., Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m.

Were you wrongfully terminated? An upcoming free "Law at the Library" seminar entitled "Employment Law" will show you how to protect your legal rights. It will be led by a local attorney who will give an overview of current employment law followed by a question and answer session.

Child Care Business Expo
The seventh annual Child Care Business Expo, a one-day event for new and existing home-based and center-based child care entrepreneurs on child care business issues, will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Peace & Diversity Art Auction
At the Chicago Historical Society, Clark and North Ave., the Albany Park Community Center will sponsor a city-wide art auction on Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m. The theme of the event is peace, unity and diversity. It will feature 300 pieces of art from youth and adults including drawings, paintings, sculpture and photography donated by a diverse, multicultural group of artists. A silent auction and party will kick off the event; the evening will conclude with a live auction highlighting 10 top works of art.
