Antiques, vintage treasures and new furniture will be sold at an upscale tag sale April 22 and 23 to benefit the Lincoln Park Community Shelter. This is an opportunity to shop for unique items for the home while raising money to provide services to the homeless. The sale will be held at the Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway, and is open to the public on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the entrance fee is $10. Those who want to get a jump on the Saturday shopping crowds may attend the Shelter Soiree, a sale preview party, on Friday, April 22, from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets for the party are $120 and include cocktails, light bites and music.
The tag sale will include new contemporary furniture similar to that sold at high end department stores, and a plasma TV donated by Home Direct, a furniture shipping and storage company. Shelter supporters have cleaned out their attics and donated antiques and vintage items to the sale, including a 1920s barrister bookcase, a 19th century gentleman's chest, Baccarat crystal decanters and glasses, an antique silver flatware service for eight and antique farm implements. Delivery will be available at a nominal charge.
The event is being chaired by Lincoln Park residents Marian Brady and Mary James, who have become known in the neighborhood for their event planning talents.
The Lincoln Park Community Shelter was founded in 1984 and serves nearly 300 guests annually. It provides community outreach services to an additional 300 needy individuals.
