St. Vincent de Paul Center has learned that United Way of Metropolitan Chicago has declined its application for funding for adult programs in fiscal 2006 (July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006). In mid-2004, United Way had declined to fund the Center’s programs for children in fiscal 2005.
The Center had received United Way funding in the $175,000-$350,000 range for the past 20-plus years, including $187,968 in fiscal 2004. United Way cited decreased revenues and a large number of applications as the reason for the decisions.
Under new United Way procedures, organizations apply for funding for specific program areas rather than for general support, and grants in each area are awarded on a three-year cycle. Thus, the center will not be eligible to receive United Way Funding for children’s programs before fiscal 2008 and for adult programs before fiscal 2009.
Marillac Social Center’s applications to United Way last year met the same fate. |
