Six Lincoln Park mansions in Spring House walk

Six spectacular homes in the heart of Lincoln Park's gentrified mansion district will be showcased from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, during Chicago City Day School's 17th Annual "City Style" House Tour. A lavish wine and hors d'oeuvres reception at the chic BOKA Restaurant + Bar, 1729 N. Halsted St., will kick off the event.
"City Style" tour will provide a rare glimpse at breath-taking developments on multiple lots on three of the most desirable streets in the tony neighborhood. Several of the homes have only recently been completed by such noted developers as Metzler/Hull Development Corp., which has built some of the most expansive single-family homes in the city.
One of the sites once served simultaneously as an art gallery and residence. Designed by architect Howard Holtzman, it was built in 1992 on Howe Street for art dealer Alan Koppel, who used much of the house and the second floor landing as an art showroom. Its current owner purchased and renovated the structure in 1995. Special features of the home, which stretches three city lots, are a storm room, a two-story dining room and an impressive art collection.
Around the corner, another spectacular brick residence by developer Metzler/Hull is beautifully landscaped and features a remarkable master suite occupying the entire second floor on Burling Street. The home takes full advantage of every square inch of space on this single lot with tasteful murals, built-in benches and a walk-through basement used as an office and grand wine cellar.
All of the homes on the tour are within walking distance of BOKA's, a Lincoln Park hot spot offering progressive American coastal cuisine. The dynamic restaurant with underlit fountain, river rock floors, bamboo walls and balcony overlooking Lincoln Park's upscale theater and shopping district will make for a festive launching site for the tour. Tickets cost $125. For reservations, call Chicago City Day School at
