The City Council has referred to committee an agreement between the City, the Park District and the Art Institute of Chicago that would assist the Art Institute with its upcoming expansion, while helping ease some traffic in the area.
Under the proposed agreement, the City would convey unused land and easements adjacent to the Lakefront Busway and the existing Art Institute building to the Chicago Park District. The Park District, in turn, would then permit the Art Institute to use the conveyed parcel for building their new wing. Easements will provide the Art Institute space needed for a cooling tower and utilities for the expansion project.
Additionally, the agreement would allow the Art Institute to use the Lakefront Busway for deliveries and service access. The access will not only benefit the Art Institute, but will help free up traffic on the surrounding surface streets. |
