The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce invites Andersonville residents, business owners, and friends to its first annual “Taste of Andersonville Dinner Dance” on Friday, Oct. 5, from 6:30-10 p.m. at the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark St.
The “Taste of Andersonville Dinner Dance” will feature an international buffet of the best dishes from 30 Andersonville restaurants, plus the renowned dance music of the Alan Gresik Swing Shift Combo, heard regularly at the Green Mill.
The first annual “Taste of Andersonville Dinner Dance” is a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, one of Chicago’s oldest and most established chambers. The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce was founded on Oct. 22, 1921, as the “Uptown Chicago Clark Street Business Men’s Association,” and in 1966, following the community’s rededication to its Swedish roots, the organization became the “Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.”
The “Taste of Andersonville Dinner Dance” is a new event, but as longtime residents will remember, Andersonville dinner dances are not. Years ago, community dances were regular affairs at the former Matteson Ballroom at Berwyn Ave. and Clark St. (now home to the Joel Hall Dance Center).
“Through many changes, Andersonville has retained its incredible community spirit. It’s the perfect neighborhood for a community dinner dance, and we’re thrilled to revive the tradition,” noted Andersonville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ellen Shepard.
“Taste of Andersonville Dinner Dance” tickets are $35 at the door. For tickets and further event information, contact the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce at (773) 728-2995.
