A Red Hot Mamma's opens in Lincoln Square

by Mamasita Roja Caliente

The Lincoln Square community will get a new shopping destination when Red Hot Mamma’s Antiques, Gifts and Consignments, 4719 N. Lincoln Ave., opens their doors for business this Saturday.

The store’s “Im-Proprietress,” Laura Jones, says the store will feature a “fun and ever-changing eclectic mix of old one-of-a-kind antique pieces and new items that are treats for yourself or quick gifts.”

In the store’s product mix you’ll find a primitive 1800s dough table that came from Nebraska alongside a Vermont fudge mix; a 1920s wedding dress from London and lacy new note cards from Texas; an elegant 1940s vanity from Michigan beside hand-painted tea cups that traveled here from North Carolina.

“If you don’t find what you’re looking for in the store, or are looking for something special, you can let me know and I’ll put it on my ‘treasure hunt list’,” said Jones.

“We’re excited to see this store open as it adds another fine owner-operated business to our community,” said Dan Garner, president of the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce. “This will certainly help further define the unique retail character of our community.”

The name Red Hot Mamma’s was inspired by a 1920s Sophie Tucker song, “I’m the Last of the Red Hot Mammas.” Tucker sings, “Come get your stuff from this hot volcano... ‘cause I’m the last of the red hot mammas. They’ve all cooled down but me... I’m getting hotter all the time.” So apparently is Lincoln Square.
