October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to help make women 40 and older aware of the importance of having an annual mammogram, Resurrection Health Care and Dominick’s Food and Drug stores are again offering women an incentive to conveniently schedule a mammogram by visiting any of seven selected Dominick’s stores during the month.
Representatives from six Resurrection Health Care hospitals—three in Chicago and three in west, northwest and north suburbs—will be at the Dominick’s stores to provide education on breast screening, schedule appointments for mammograms and offer physician referrals for women who do not have a personal physician. Women who visit one of the seven participating Dominick’s stores and sign up for a mammogram will receive a $20 Dominick’s gift certificate after completion of their mammogram at a Resurrection Health Care facility.
Participants from this area can schedule a mammogram at Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center, 2233 W. Division St.
Representatives from Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center will be available at the Fullerton and Clybourn Dominick’s Food and Drug, 2550 N. Clybourn Ave., four Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each date; and four Fridays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, from 1 to 6 p.m. each date.
The American Cancer Society estimates 192,200 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and that one of every eight women in the United States has a lifetime risk of breast cancer. The society recommends annual mammograms for women 40 and older.
