To the Editor,
I am writing to thank the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Park District for stepping up to the plate and saving Thillens Stadium for all the youth in the Chicagoland area. Now the Cubs organization is responsible for supporting two of the greatest sport facilities and treasures of the city!
It's great for the kids, a perfect choice for the Cubs organization, a nice fit for the Chicago Park District, and the perfect use of Metropolitan Water Reclamation Department land. It's a win-win for all those concerned.
Someone asked me today, as the general manager operating Thillens Stadium for the last 40 years, exactly how this day felt for me personally. I got to thinking... I know it's a perfect marriage, but I guess I just feel like the father of the bride.
Thanks again for helping out, and I'm glad that what my family started 66 years ago will live at least another 39.
