Rapist charged
DNA evidence connects a suspect in custody with a crime last July 26 in an alley of the 2000 block of N. Racine Ave. A woman, age 25, was raped. Marshall Stewart, 33, of Des Plaines, has been linked by DNA to the crime; he has already been charged with the sexual assault of a woman in Jefferson Park in August 2004. He is in jail with bail set at $500,000. Allegedly he has confessed to the crime on Racine.

Drug and Gang Houses targeted
Ten years ago the City decided to centralize enforcement of the drug and gang house ordinance, which allows the City to hold landlords responsible for encouraging or permitting illegal activity on their property. Through the Law Department's Drug and Gang House Enforcement Section, created at that time, city attorneys work with the Chicago Police Department, Department of Buildings, CAPS and community residents to identify problem buildings and bring enforcement actions against the owners. Now community members are invited to attend a Community Prosecution, Problem Solving, and Partnership Building Conference 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the John Marshall Law School, 315 S. Plymouth Ct. Lunch will be provided. To attend, call Lorna Swan at (312) 744-9066.
