The 11th annual world-class sculpture exhibition, Navy Pier 2005, will enliven Navy Pier through Oct. 31. This year’s exhibition features 20 large-scale sculptures created by 10 emerging, mid-career, and recognized artists from across the entire world. This year’s featured artists include Jim Benedict, Coral Lambert, Zoran Mojsilov, Ralph Provisero, Tamsie Ringler, Scott Roberts, Kay Rosen, Ulrich Ruckriem, Franz West, and Ben Woitena.
"The 2005 Navy Pier Walk hews to the same criteria I proposed for that of 2004: crowd-friendliness, variety, and surprise. Or, in a word, difference," said Curator Peter Schjeldahl. "Good artists specialize in making differences. They startle and refresh. As before, this year’s show includes works by invited artists of international reputation along with juried pieces by artists who generally are less well known."
The exhibit is on display in Gateway Park, the 90-acre park located in front of the city’s top-visited attraction, Navy Pier. Admission is free and sculptures are available for viewing during Pier operating hours.
