Celebrating another summer of free music under the stars, the Chicago Park District's Concerts in the Park series continues its song with more than 100 live musical performances on Chicago's North Side through the end of summer. Concerts in the Park musical styles range from classical and jazz to big band and pop, offering something exciting for all ages.
"Concerts in the Park is a great opportunity for families to grab a picnic basket and blanket and head to their local park to enjoy more of their summertime outdoors," said North Region Manager Matt Marino. "The Park District has been able to continually expand its number of concerts each season because of the strong financial support of local community groups."
The first family concert kicks off Thursday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Trebes Park, 2250 N. Clifton Ave., with The Sounds of Deerfield sponsored by the Sheffield Neighbors Assn. Concerts continue through Sept. 24 with artists such as Amy Lowe, Horner Park Jazz Band, Nelson Gill and the Caribbean Rhythm Band, Bill Porter Concert Band, St. Jams, and Revolutionary Swing Orchestra.
The first Concerts in the Park for children kicks off Friday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Revere Park, 2509 W. Irving Park Rd., with Nelson Gill and the Caribbean Rhythms Band sponsored by the Revere Park Advisory Council, and the series also continues through Sept. 24. The Chicago Park District's children's concerts provide recreation with positive, educational messages that are designed to stimulate creativity and imagination. Most performers encourage young concert goers to participate by singing and moving and even playing instruments.
