| Global fest at St. Matthias/Transfiguration

On May 14 the Lincoln Square school celebrated its cultural diversity with food and entertainment from eight countries. Each grade was assigned one of those countries to study, said Principal Mary Reinhard, giving them an opportunity "to see that their own heritage is valued and respected as well as learn to appreciate other cultures." |

Benefit for St. Greg's
To support St. Gregory's new Theatre Arts partnership with Raven Theatre, there will be a benefit performance of "Dancing at Lughnasa" at Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark St., on Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m. The cost of $30 per ticket will include a champagne reception and raffle. Bring home a cat
In honor of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month, Catching Life Christian Bookstore has arranged for a different animal shelter every Saturday in June to bring their cats/kittens in for an adoption day. The bookstore is located at 4054 N. Lincoln Ave. and adoption hours will be noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday. June 4: Harmony House for Cats, June 11: Cats are Purrsons Too, June 18: Tree House Foundation and June 25: Furry Friends Foundation (pending). The Workshops: An Art Experience For Teens
Lincoln Square Community Arts Center in July will offer workshops in the arts, to teens entering grades 7-12, in Fiber Arts, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts. All instructors are experienced, practicing fine artists.
Courses include: Quilting, Costume Design and Construction, The Business of Show Business (Auditioning for Theater), Musical Theater, Song Writing, Clay Treasure Chests, Moveable Murals, Pin-hole Photography, and Rock Painting.
Courses will run from two to four sessions. Each session is three hours. The fee is $25 per three-hour session.
There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee. Course fees are not refundable after the first class session.
Classes will be held at the Lincoln Square Community Arts Center housed at Berry United Methodist Church, 4754 N. Leavitt St.
Registration is June 13, 14, and 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lincoln Square Community Arts Center. Make payment only by cash or by check made payable to LSCAC.

Ribfest Chicago
From live music and great food from area restaurants to an amateur rib cooking contest and plenty of activities for kids, the 7th annual Ribfest Chicago in the Northcenter, Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12, promises something for all ages.
Sponsored by the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce, Ribfest Chicago will be held near the intersection of Irving Park Rd. and Lincoln Ave. Hours are noon-10 p.m. on Saturday and noon-8 p.m. on Sunday. Gate donation is $5.
An amateur rib cooking contest will be held on Sunday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m. Call (773) 868-3010 to sign-up or for more information. You'll see ribs, ribs and more ribs as area restaurants will be selling the meat-lover's dream.
Plenty of activities for kids and their families take place throughout the weekend. These include storyteller Elyne Handler from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, and performances by members of the Imagination Theatre on both afternoons.

| Saint Joseph Hospital patients visited by CSO

Participants dressed in hats and pearls to enjoy afternoon tea and crumpets while being treated to a performance by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Chicago Arts Quintet.

Rush Hour Concerts
Don't miss a fine free weekly chamber music series open to the public, at St. James Cathedral, 65 E. Huron St. (Huron and Wabash). Held Tuesday evenings from June through August, Rush Hour Concerts feature artists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The Chicago Chamber Musicians, as well as professional musicians from St. James Cathedral. The concerts are designed to create a tranquil transition between busy summer days and busy summer evenings.
On Tuesday, June 7, enjoy the Brahms String Quartet in Bb, Op. 67, featuring The Sebastian Quartet: Yuan-Qing Yu (violin), Russell Hershow (violin), Yukiko Ogura (viola), and Kenneth Olsen (cello). Refreshments are at 5:15 p.m., the concert at 5:45 p.m.
On June 14, Rush Hour Concerts will present Schubert Quintet for piano and strings, Op. 114 ("Trout"), featuring Bernard Zinck (violin), Rami Solomonow (viola), Marlena Tureski (cello), The Very Rev. Ralph Blackman (double bass), and Deborah Sobol (piano).
On June 21, hear music of Britten and Vaughan Williams, featuring Ramin Solomonow (viola), and Deborah Sobol (piano), and sponsored by the Chicago office of the British Consulate General.

Lydon Fine Art: Pristas Paintings

Pristas' work will be part of Summer Solstice, a three-woman show that opens Friday, June 3, at Lydon Fine Art. The opening reception for "Summer Solstice: A Three Woman Show" is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lydon Fine Art, 309 W. Superior St. Summer solstice imagery inspired several of the paintings that Pristas created for the Lydon show, which runs through Aug. 31. Works with names such as "Sun Squares," "Listening to the Muse" and "Whisper Sky" tap into the energy of the longest day of the year. |
