Everyone from infants to the elderly can join the fun at the fourth annual Ravenswood Community Care Fair, a free event that will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the parking lot of Ravenswood Community Child Care Center (RC4) and Ravenswood Evangelical Covenant Church, 4908 N. Damen Ave.
Children will enjoy a myriad of activities, particularly designed with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in mind. Artisan will display their works including jewelry, pottery, paintings, fiber arts, handmade books, glass creations and more. Free children's activities and entertainment will be ongoing throughout the day. Coffee, baked goods and lunch items will be available for purchase. There will be a silent auction, which includes an authenticated soccer ball signed by all the 2004 Olympic Gold Medal-winning U.S. Womens Soccer team. Admission to the Care Fair is Free. Parking is available at Winnemac Park.
Proceeds will benefit RC4, a not-for-profit center that provides care and education for children six weeks through five years of age, with priority enrollment given to parents completing their high school education, primarily at Amundsen and Lakeview High Schools. Since it opened its doors to teen and community parents three years ago, RC4 has become a thriving neighborhood center with a level of excellence not common among child care programs.
"RC4 has a great mix of people: it's diverse in every way - culturally, racially, ethnically and religiously," said Dr. Melissa Clark, a family practice physician who has worked with the health care center at Amundsen High School and has a child at RC4. "It benefits the teen parents as well as the community with great child care and education for all parents. The Care Fair is one way that the community can get involved with supporting the Center - and it's a ton of fun!"
Commitment to the core values of Community, Diversity, Lifelong Learning, Quality and Respect is evident daily in center, which includes three daycare classrooms, a handicap-accessible bathroom, a modified kitchen facility and a play lot in the church's parking lot area. The center can accommodate approximately 45 children.
