The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Foundation and St. Scholastica Academy renamed and dedicated the Academy's fine arts wing as the Patricia G. Nolan Center for the Arts on Thursday, May 5. The Rice Foundation has awarded St. Scholastica Academy a $1 million grant for its fine arts programs and facility located at 7416 N. Ridge Blvd. in the historic neighborhood of Rogers Park.
Patricia G. Nolan Center for the Arts is named in honor of the Rice Foundation's late chairperson and mother of its current president Peter G. Nolan. Patricia G. Nolan was a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy in 1945 and attended Northwestern University. Mrs. Nolan was a well-respected artist focusing on the fine details of nature and served on the Art Institute of Chicago's Asian Art Committee. She also served on the Chicago Boys and Girls Club Women's Board and was a member of the Antiquarian Society.
Mrs. Nolan succeeded her late husband, Arthur A. Nolan, Jr., as chair of the foundation. Mrs. Nolan's late uncle, Daniel F. Rice, founded the Rice Foundation in 1947 to support Chicago area charities while seeking out innovative approaches to helping mankind.
The Patricia G. Nolan Center for the Arts will host soccer champion Mia Hamm on Sunday, Sept. 25, as she receives the Academy's annual Woman for the World Award. Last year's recipient was poet and author Maya Angelou. Tickets for the Hamm event go on sale on Friday, July 1. All seats are assigned and tickets range from $30 to $150. Youth ticket prices are available for eighth graders and younger. Please visit www.scholastica.us for more information about the Academy and upcoming events in the Patricia G.
