Custer's Last Stand Festival offers antiques, arts & crafts, jazz, puppets, varied entertainment

Evanston will hold the 33rd annual Custer's Last Stand Festival of the Arts on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19. The main entrance to the fair is at the intersection of Chicago Ave. and Main St. in Evanston. Offering a broad range of top entertainment, vendors, and restaurants, the fest opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. The Jazz Stage and food booths on Chicago Avenue stay open until 9 p.m. both nights.
Browse 500 arts & crafts exhibits from all over America, and take a look at the antiques of 30 dealers. Thirty restaurants are featured at the Custer FoodFest. The Jazz Stage runs continuous music and the show stage features music and variety entertainment, including Zach Brock, jazz violinist (5:30 p.m. Sunday). The Children's Park, sponsored by Goods of Evanston, features the Piccolo Theatre performing "Rapunzel" (1:30 and 4 p.m. Saturday; 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday); the Piccolo Puppet Theatre with Ken Raabe (11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday; noon, 1, 2, 3, 4:30 p.m. Sunday); rock climbing, and more.
Each year 60,000 people attend this Evanston tradition. Custer's Last Stand was inducted into the Illinois Festival Hall of Fame as one of the top fests in the state. A completely voluntary $1 donation will be requested at the entrance gates. Patrons are encouraged to take the CTA or Metra, which stop at Main St., for ease of travel.
