U. S. Cellular President and CEO John E. Rooney and Congressman Luis Gutierrez presented Christopher House with a $43,797 grant to purchase a new van and help fund the literacy program of the organization's family resource center. Christopher House provides child and youth development, parent enrichment, literacy, counseling and emergency services to more than 3,800 children and adults each year.
The new passenger van seats 15 and enables Christopher House to provide more than 6,000 rides to children, youth and adults to and from schools, cultural events and other facilities throughout the year. The donation also covers one year of operating expenses for the vehicle. In addition, $10,000 of this grant is set aside to fund the organization's literacy program, which provides one-on-one tutoring and small group classes for youth and adults. |
