Marvel at The Spheres

The Millennium Park Welcome Center in the Northwest Exelon Pavilion contains a site specific sculptural installation created by Chicago-based artists Patrick McGee and Adelheid Mers. The piece consists of three 9-foot, two-way mirrors, mounted at right angles, that spectacularly reflect each other and their surroundings. The mirrors are backlit to reveal appearing and disappearing imagery and text.
The artwork contains alphanumeric displays that represent the actual energy generated from the solar/ photovoltaic cells that are integrated into the exterior walls of the Exelon Pavilions.
According to a statement by the artists, the piece "addresses how we conceptualize the links between the earth’s atmosphere, photosynthesis and solar power, between the heliosphere, the biosphere and the
technosphere."
