No suspects yet in Proctor shooting
Police continue the investigation into the shooting of Dan Proctor, 37, on the 1400 block of W. Carmen Ave. around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, June 26. The actor, who lives in Buena Park, was about two miles from his home. His car was found in the area of the shooting; his wallet and cell phone were still in his possession when he was found, critically injured in the head. Proctor is a prominent singer, actor and dancer, most recently performing in "The Music Man" at Drury Lane's Oak Brook stage.

Stricter penalties for felons possessing firearms
House Bill 524, just signed by Governor Rod Blagojevich, eliminates the option of probation for felons who are arrested for possessing a firearm. Anyone with a prior conviction for the unlawful use of a weapon — or a prior conviction for any felony — would be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of three years and a maximum of 14 years in prison.

Hundred percent accessible
Every CTA bus, on each of the 150 routes, is now equipped with a ramp or hydraulic lift. These features, along with low-floor and kneeling buses, make it easier for senior citizens and people with disabilities to board and disembark. In addition, CTA buses are equipped with an automated announcement system to help visually impaired and hearing impaired customers better navigate the system. Exterior announcements and electronic signs identify the bus route and its destination when the front doors are opened. Also, interior announcements and signs identify the next stop.
Every CTA train has at least one accessible car. All trains have a pre-recorded announcement system to state the upcoming stop. Gap fillers for wheelchairs are located at el stations to facilitate the movement of mobility devices on and off trains. Most rail platforms include raised tactile edging to alert customers to the edge of the platforms.
