Don't miss the 37th Annual Sheffield Garden Walk from noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, sponsored by the Sheffield Neighborhood Association (SNA), a non-profit community organization. The fest features self-guided tours of more than 100 gardens, a garden center, guided architectural tours, live entertainment by fine bands, food and drink, activities for children at the Kids Corner, and a noteworthy silent auction. Enjoy nationally and regionally known bands on the mainstage, and other musical performances on the grounds of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
The donation on Saturday is $6 until 5 p.m., and $8 after 5 p.m. On Sunday it is $6 all day. Proceeds from this volunteer-managed festival provide continued support for neighborhood schools, local institutions, and community projects. In addition, proceeds are allocated to SNA's award-winning Beautification Program, a 7-10 year plan to maintain Sheffield as the Garden District of Chicago.
Take the el or ride your bike to Webster St. and Sheffield Ave. (2200 N and 1000 W). Public transportation is ideal, as the fest is one block south of the Fullerton el stop on the Red and Brown Lines. For public transportation information, check out the CTA's Web site, www.transitchicago.com. Bicycle racks are available on the DePaul campus.
If you absolutely must drive, park free at Finkl Steel (Southport Ave. just south of Clybourn Ave.) or park for $5/12 hours at DePaul University garage (Clifton Ave. just south of Fullerton Ave.).
To get around, hop on the free Garden Walk trolley sponsored by Finkl Steel. The trolley runs every 20 minutes from the parking lot at Finkl Steel and makes several stops throughout the neighborhood, including a half block from the DePaul garage and at Kids Corner.
If you have questions, stop by the Information Booth at the Garden Center on the lawn in front of St. Vincent de Paul Church or inside the main gate (Webster St. & Sheffield Ave.).
Note: No pets, bicycles, rollerblades, cans, bottles, etc., are allowed in the main festival area .
