'Last Jews of Baghdad'
See a film screening of "The Last Jews of Baghdad: End of an Exile, Beginning of a Journey," a new documentary by Carole Basri, Adriana Davis, and Bryan Durr, on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, 618 S. Michigan Ave. Jews have lived in Iraq since 586 BC, at one time numbering as many as 160,000. Today just 22 of this once-vibrant community remain. A new documentary by an award-winning production team shares their historical and personal journey through persecution, torture, escape, and exile.

Attention all Bravehearts
Enjoy the Celtic Fest Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18. The 9th Annual Celtic Fest Chicago is free and runs 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Grant Park, located at Columbus Drive and Jackson Blvd. Ten performance areas will showcase music and entertainment from such distant lands as Brittany, France; Ireland; Galicia, Spain; Scotland; Isle of Man; Cornwall; Wales; and across the United States and Canada.
This year’s performers include Liz Carroll, Rachel Barton with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, The Tannahil Weavers, Different Drums of Ireland with The Trinity Irish Dancers, Old Blind Dogs, Baka Beyond, Brock McGuire Band, The David Munnelly Band, Chicago Rovers, Moore and Broaders, Kathy Cowan, Navan, and much more.
Can’t wait until Sept. 17 and 18 to have all the fun? Two previous concerts will take place to get you warmed up leading up to the fest: the Celtic Fest Preview Concert in Daley Plaza (at Dearborn and Washington streets) on Thursday, Sept. 8, at noon, featuring the Chicago Rovers. Following that, the Celtic Fest Kick-Off Concert will take place Friday, Sept. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Preston Bradley Hall in the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. The concert is free and sponsored by the Illinois St. Andrew Society.
Fashion show benefits homeless
Starborn Productions will present a benefit fashion show for the homeless, "Chicago’s Best Models Showcase," at the Spertus Institute in the Bederman Auditorium at 618 S. Michigan Ave. on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m.
A total of $4,000 in cash, prizes, and awards will be presented to the winners in this elite modeling competition. Starborn Productions is conducting a models and designers search for this event. This affair will showcase a number of outstanding guest designers' collections, presented by 50 competing models. On hand will be performing entertainers and fashion exhibitors along with guest dignitaries from the fashion industry. This affair will be televised on cable television.
