Danielle J. McCarron recently earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. She was also honored with the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry Senior Award for clinical proficiency in esthetic dentistry. She was congratulated by Dr. Rand Harlow, the G. William Knight Clinical Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. McCarron is a resident of Lake View.
Welcoming book club
Please join the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Chicago Branch Book Club in reading "Small as a Mustard Seed," by award-winning journalist Shelli Johnson. She will be on hand Monday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. to talk about writing and getting her book published. The AAUW Book Club is free and open to the public. Country Fair in City
Everyone is welcome at the 11th "Country Fair in the City" being held at the Addison Street Community Church on Saturday, Aug. 27. The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the church, where Hamilton Street will blocked off for various events. There will be a number of activities for all ages, including a petting zoo, games for children, music, a silent auction, a bake sale, a dunk tank and a jumping jack, as well as plenty of food to purchase. Units from the Chicago Police and Fire Departments have participated for the last 10 years. General admission is free; food items are purchased separately.
Kids, bring instrument
This fall, the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave., will continue its Sunday Afternoon Music Sessions in the Fifth Province Pub. The free, family-friendly sessions will take place on the second Sunday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m. The September session is Sept. 11. The remaining sessions for the year are Oct. 9, Nov. 13, and Dec. 18.
Students of Noel Rice’s Academy of Irish Music will be featured performers each month, playing traditional Irish music. What makes this Sunday Irish music session different than the many around the city is that it is geared toward young musicians.
