Knitting Expo visits Chicago area; Learn, shop, and share... it's all about good knitting!

Knitters from across North America are heading to Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont for the seventh annual Stitches Midwest Knitting Expo, sponsored by Knitter’s Magazine. This 4-day event brings thousands of knitting experts, novices, and spectators together with designers, authors, educators, and suppliers from across the country and around the world.
Considered the largest and most comprehensive event of its kind, Stitches is a special experience for every attendee. It’s a chance to see old friends and make new ones. Endless new designs and fashion trends inspire knitters of all ages. There are classes, book signings, door prizes, show and tell events, and a spectacular fashion show featuring the latest knitting collections. For the dedicated knitter, a long weekend of fun and fiber rejuvenates knitting spirits with pre-registered events beginning on Thursday, and final classes wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.
Come experience a sensory overload in the Stitches Market. Mountains of beautiful yarn, books, patterns, buttons, supplies, and gadgets of all kinds give eager shoppers exactly what they are searching for. Colors and textures to suit every style can be found in over 200 booths on the Market floor, open to the general public Friday through Sunday. Exhibitors travel from as far away as Australia to introduce their products to the frenzy of knitters.
Stitches offers something for everyone - expert, enthusiast, even the non-knitter. Learn-to-knit classes are held each afternoon in the Stitches Market. Yarn, needles and a one hour class are all FREE with admission. Last year over 120 people learned to knit at the show; this year even more people will pick up a pair of needles and try their hand at this fine craft.
The Stitches Market is open to the public Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission to the Stitches Market is $7 for adults; children 10 and under are admitted free. Two-day and three-day passes are available. Call for group rates. And remember, Learn-to-knit classes are free with admission. For more information about pre-registration for classes and other special events, visit Stitches online at www.knittinguniverse.com or call (800) 237-7099.
There’s never been a better time to be a knitter. Research confirms that the resurgence in knitting is not a fleeting trend or a fad but an evolution. What we are witnessing is a cultural shift, a lifestyle phenomenon, and a craft network burgeoning with committed enthusiasts. Knitting is here to stay (Craft Yarn Council of America 2005 Report). Check out Stitches Midwest, Aug. 11-14 at Donald E. Stephens in Rosemont, to find out why.
