Special to Inside
Within the Roman Catholic Church, October is Respect Life month. As part of that celebration, this Saturday six North Side parishes are hosting the 2005 Parishes of Lincoln Avenue Walk For Life.
Everyone is welcome to join them in making a visible commitment to support a Culture of Life by walking the four-mile route along Lincoln Ave. The walk begins with registration at Transfiguration of our Lord Church, 2609 W. Carmen Ave., from 8 to 9 a.m. The participants will follow a leisurely route through each of the other parishes: St. Matthias, Queen of Angels, St. Benedict, St. Andrew and finally, St. Alphonsus parish at Wellington and Lincoln avenues, to be reached at approximately 1 p.m. The event will offer opportunities for prayer along the way, and each parish will host a welcome station where walkers may pick up refreshments and water as needed.
No registration fee is required, but individual attendees donating $10 or more will each receive a commemorative T-shirt from the event. Proceeds are used to support the Respect Life groups of each of the six parishes for the upcoming year. These groups organize events and lectures, sponsor needy mothers, and support crisis pregnancy centers. They also spread the message of life to fellow parishioners, Catholic elementary and middle schools, their school families, and the community.
