Worthy of extension
Pegasus Players, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., have extended the run of "Two Trains Running," by August Wilson, through Nov. 20. They are also offering pay-what-you-can Fridays to encourage attendance of all Chicagoans in honor of August Wilson. Used Book Sale
Budlong Woods Branch Library, 5630 N. Lincoln Ave., will hold a used book sale: Thursday, Oct. 20, 3-8:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m. –4:30 p.m. Hardbacks cost $1 or 6 for $5. Paperbacks cost 25¢ or 5 for $1. Donations of gently used books are gladly accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Budlong Woods Branch of the Chicago Public Library. Ever wonder?
If you are curious about the house you live in, and you wonder who ever lived in your home, here’s your chance to explore its history. On Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Sulzer Library, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave., Grace DuMell will give a lecture entitled "Unlocking the doors to your Home’s Past." The lecture is free, and no registration is required.
DuMell is the author of "Finding Your Chicago Ancestors: A Beginner’s Guide to Family History in the City and Cook County," published by local Lake Claremont Press.
Comedy with family values
GORDONtech Theatre presents "Cheaper by the Dozen," based on the real story of the Gilbreth family. It details the amusing anecdotes found in large families. Frank Gilbreth, Sr., was a pioneer in the field of motion study, and often used his family as guinea pigs, with sometimes embarrassing results. He resisted popular culture, rallying against his daughters' desires for boys, dates, bobbed hair and cosmetics. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 28 and 29, Nov. 4 and 5, at 7:30 p.m., as well as Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8; call (773) 539-3600, ext. 365, or purchase at the door. Helping those who help youth
Street–Level Youth Media, 1856 W. Chicago Ave., is one of five community agencies that won $15,000 each. Street-Level was recognized for innovating the technology and space of their Neutral Ground Studio; evaluating and improving Neutral Ground workshops; and creating new opportunities for paid youth internships. In addition, staff are recruiting and working with a core group of youth to develop and formalize the role and structure of a Youth Council. Graceful cartoons
The Jean Albano Gallery, 215 W. Superior St., presents an exhibition of original artwork by the Pulitzer Prize winning New York cartoonist, author, playwright and artist Jules Feiffer. The show opens Friday, Oct. 21, and will run through Saturday, Dec. 3. Catch Your Breath
The American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago is holding its annual Catch Your Breath: Women & Lung Health luncheon and conference at the Chicago Marriott Hotel, 540 N. Michigan Ave., on Dec. 1. They are holding pre-events to bring awareness to lung disease and the Catch Your Breath Event.
The first event has a cost; the fee listed below covers admission and one hour of complimentary vodka cocktails and appetizers from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The second event is free and open to the public. Child support info
What factors determine how much child support will be given? Attend an upcoming "Law at the Library" seminar entitled "Child Support," led by a Chicago –area attorney who will end with a question and answer session. The seminar will be held at Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State St., on Monday, Oct. 24, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Reservations are not required.
Apply to IMSA
Applications for admission to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (grades 10-12), Class of 2009, which will enroll next fall, are now available online at www.imsa.edu/admissions/applyOnline/.
Talented Illinois students enrolled in the equivalent of a ninth grade program are eligible for consideration. Tuition and most room and board expenses are provided by state funds. A written application must be completed and returned to IMSA, postmarked no later than March 1, 2006. Students can also contact their high school guidance counselor or IMSA’s Office of Admissions at (800) 500-IMSA to receive an application. IMSA is located in Aurora.
Austrian Mixed Chorus Concert
The Austrian Mixed Chorus, now in its 26th Season, invites one and all to its annual concert and dinner dance on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Avalon Banquets, 1905 E. Higgins Rd. in Elk Grove Village. The evening will begin with cocktails (cash bar) at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. This year’s event is held under the motto "A Heart That Loves You" and will feature classic Viennese music as well as Alpine folk songs under the direction of George V. Humphrey. Music for your dancing and listening pleasure will be provided by the popular Johnny Wagner Band, and a waltz interlude will feature the Egerlaender Dance Group. The cost is $48 per person, which includes complete dinner, sweets table, tax and tip, concert and dancing to 10:45 p.m. There is plenty of free parking available.

CCM free concert
The Chicago Chamber Musicians’ founding ensemble artist Gail Williams, horn, will be joined by guest artists Daniel Perantoni, tuba, and Yoko Yamada, piano, to perform contemporary musical works at CCM’s free First Monday concert on Nov. 7. The monthly lunch hour concerts are held under the Tiffany Dome in the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall, 78 E. Washington St., and broadcast live over WFMT (98.7 FM) radio.
