The Second City presents Tim O'Malley's "godshow," on Sundays in The Black Orchid Theater, 1608 N. Wells St., 3rd Floor of Piper's Alley, through Dec. 11, at 8 p.m.
Written and performed by Second City alum Tim O'Malley, "godshow" is a true look back at his life coming up the ranks at Chicago's famed Second City theater in the 1990s. With a mix of monologues, scenes, songs, video and improvisation, the show exposes Tim's battle with bitterness and sense of entitlement, his alcoholism and drug addiction, and his downward spiral to hitting bottom. Then it reveals his recovery, return to the stage and films, and search for redemption.
Four supporting cast members play everyone from O'Malley's treatment center mates, to his family, to God. The show features Second City alums Michael J. Gellman and Mark Belden, with Chicago actors Otis Fine and Karen Holbert. It's directed by Second City veteran Norm Holly with musical direction by Laura Kessler. Tickets for "godshow" are $12; call (312) 337-3992 or visit www.secondcity.com.
