The Theatre School at DePaul University will present "A New Brain," with music and lyrics by William Finn, book by William Finn and James Lapine, at the Athenaeum Studio Three, 2936 N. Southport Ave. Admission is free.
Tony-Award winner William Finn's own medical misdiagnosis was the basis for this quirky and uplifting musical. Gordon, under stress from his job, collapses and is soon diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. During his stay in the hospital he is visited by an odd assortment of characters, helping him discover the healing power of art.
The show runs Nov. 11 - 20, with previews Nov. 9 and 10, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. A post-show discussion with the cast follows the performance on Thursday, Nov. 17.
