The Chicago Department of Transportation is finishing construction of the new Vietnam Memorial Plaza at the Riverwalk along Wacker Dr. between Wabash Ave. and State St. The $4.3 million plaza will feature a water wall, a list of all Illinois Killed In Action’s, and service emblems of the Armed Forces and support service organizations. Mayor Richard M. Daley will formally dedicate the new Memorial Plaza at a ceremony on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Prior to the ceremony, beginning at 7 a.m., all names of the over 2,900 Illinois KIA’s of the Vietnam War will be read in a solemn ceremony.
