Love affair: Joe, Kirsten...and the bottle

Q/A Holiday Bazaar
The Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair at Queen of Angels Parish, 4416 N. Western Ave., will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in the Guild Hall. Enjoy more than 30 artists and crafters, an American Girl Doll raffle and X-Box raffle. The Little Angels Bakery, Cozy Café, a visit with Santa and “Presents from Around Town at Santa’s Post Office” are also planned.

Bell Studio
“My Existential Crisis: Oil Paintings by Eileen M. O’Hagan" will be on view at Bell Studio, 3428 N. Southport Ave., Nov. 22 to Jan. 8. The artist’s reception will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. “Full and empty. My sin, the physicist, when asked if the cup is half empty or half full, always says that the cup is too big. Flu shots for seniors
People aged 60 and older can get flu shots to help protect them from getting dangerous respiratory illnesses this winter. The influenza vaccine is covered through Medicare Part B, offering Medicare enrollees the option of getting immunized through their private physician or at City of Chicago flu clinics. Each Medicare recipient should bring his or her Medicare card to the City site providing them a flu shot. The Chicago Department on Aging and the Chicago Department of Public Health will offer flu vaccines from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Northeast Levy Senior Center, 2019 W. Jingle Bell Bazaar
Start your holiday shopping early, on Saturday, Nov. 5, 10 a.m. –4 p.m., in St. Pauls House Auditorium, 3800 N. California Ave. Coffee and bakery treats will be available at the bakery booth starting at 10 a.m. (Donations of bakery goods are accepted and greatly appreciated.) Enjoy lunch at the Jingle Bell Café from noon to 2 p.m., served by “Jingle Bell” Belles and Beaus. Coffee and soda pop are available.

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church’s Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Church, 4511 N. Social Security Disability
Are you disabled? Do you want to know if you qualify for Social Security disability benefits? An upcoming free “Law at the Library” seminar will explain how to apply for Social Security benefits and what Social Security considers when determining a person's eligibility. History of medicine
Concurrent exhibitions of drawings by Alice Leora Briggs and embroideries and paintings by Leigh Anne Lester will be on display at the International Museum of Surgical Science from Nov. 4 to Jan. 20. A free public reception for the artists will take place on Friday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. Two artists interpret the theme of medical history—to which the museum is devoted—in works that stimulate both the eye and the mind.
The museum’s permanent collection contains thousands of artifacts from medical history, including surgical instruments as well as a number of paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Housed in a landmark turn-of-the-century mansion, the International Museum of Surgical Science is located at 1524 N. Lake Shore Dr. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. On Tuesdays admission is free. Divorce procedure
Where does the process of filing for a divorce begin, and what is involved? The free seminar “Divorce” will give an overview of what steps to follow when filing for a divorce. A Chicago attorney will discuss the process of filing for divorce, followed by a Q&A session. The “Divorce” seminar will be held at Harold Washington Library, 400 S. Sword fights & secret identities
North Park University Theatre presents ”King Lear,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 9-12, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in the Lecture Hall Auditorium (LHA) on the campus of North Park, 3225 W. Foster Ave. This tragedy by Shakespeare is full of love and duty, age and wisdom.

Clay, acrylic & collage
Artists Marva Pitchford Jolly and Rhonda Wheatley will exhibit work in a new installation called Becoming: Transition and Transformation, opening Thursday, Nov. 10, at 3Arts, 1300 N. Dearborn Pkwy. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Dec. 15. 500 Clown
Celebrate the holidays with "500 Clown (sings) Christmas Carol(s)," the raucous Christmas celebration featuring three clowns as Dickensian rock stars, performing "A Christmas Carol"-based songs by local composer/ lyricist John Fournier. This pop-rock clown show will come to the Storefront Theatre in the Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, 66 E. Randolph St., for a limited engagement Nov. 16 through Jan. 7. Tickets are $10-$15. Client/agency relationship
Join the Chicago Financial Advertisers (CFA) and guests on Wednesday, Nov. 16, for a light-hearted, but informative, session that will break down some long-standing myths about the client/creative agency relationship. Agency powerhouses BBDO Chicago and GMR Marketing, LLC will be represented by Account Director Stacy Koetsier and Group Account Director Kevin Brown, respectively.
CFA welcomes non-members as members alike at each session. The location is Maggiano’s, 111 W. Rising Voice of Woman

Mary Robinson received the first Rising Voice of Woman award at a memorial forum launched by the International Women Associates (IWA) this fall, at The Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Ct. She is the first female President of Ireland, a former United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights, and current director of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative, which she founded in 2002. The forum was established by IWA to honor eight members who were killed in a traffic accident on Oct. 1, 2003, as they were returning to Chicago from Anderson Gardens in Rockford.
