Free skin cancer screening

When people think about good health, they often forget about taking care of the skin. The skin is very important—it protects us from heat, light, injury and infection. It also helps regulate body temperature and stores water, fat and vitamin D. Like many cancers, skin cancer (melanoma) is very treatable if detected early. Risk factors include sun exposure, race, and individual and family history. A visual exam by a physician can help identify skin cancer at its earliest stage.
Take advantage of a free skin cancer screening. Exams will be performed by George Salti, MD, FACS, director of Surgical Oncology, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Creticos Cancer Center, 901 W. Wellington Ave. An appointment is needed; call (800) 3-ADVOCATE and mention event code 9C44.
