Tradition with a twist

Seated, from left, are G. Riley Mills and Ralph Covert with the cast of their new holiday musical, "A Nutcracker Christmas." Standing, from left, are Paige Jarvie (ballerina), Andrew Rothenberg (Mouse King), Sarah Ball (Nutcracker), and Noah Durham (Fritz). Emerald City Theatre Company presents the show Nov. 20-Dec. 31 at the Apollo Theater, 2540 N. Lincoln Ave.
Based on the traditional story of "The Nutcracker," Emerald City's "A Nutcracker Christmas" is presented in engaging musical theater style, but with some surprising twists! The show also introduces some rockin' new holiday songs by Covert including "The Wind-Up Ballet," "Almost Christmas Morning" and "Let's Ruin Christmas." Single tickets are $9; $12 for adults; call (773) 935-6100, or visit www.emeraldcitytheatre.com
