Get MAD: Music At DePaul

This weekend, Nov. 11-13, brings a remarkable collection of Music At DePaul, featuring free performances by nearly all its ensembles and some special guests.
The "Get MAD" weekend begins on Nov. 11 with a DePaul Singers' Workshop, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the DePaul Concert Hall. Featuring Vocal Master Classes, Acting for Singers, Alexander Technique and more, the workshop will be presented by DePaul faculty members Elsa Charlston, Christopher Lorimer, Susanne Mentzer, Harry Silverstein, and David Smalley. The Singers' Workshop will conclude with a DePaul Voice Faculty & Student Recital at 6 p.m. in the DePaul Recital Hall.
The DePaul Wind Symphony will wrap-up the day's activities with an 8 p.m. performance in the Concert Hall, featuring "Festive Music" by Frigyes Hidas, "Buzzing Polka" by Laszlo Dubrovay and many others.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Chicago Chamber Musicians host an open rehearsal from 8 a.m. to noon in Concert Hall. The DePaul AmerKlavier Studio will present a Beethoven Piano Sonata Masterclass from noon to 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall, led by Eteri Andjaparidze, DePaul Professor of Piano. Also on Saturday, the AmerKlavier studio will further explore Beethoven with a Colloquium: Hammer-klavier & "32 by 23" from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the Recital Hall. The DePaul Symphony Orchestra will conclude Saturday's events with a performance featuring "Tzigane" by Maurice Ravel and "Symphony No. 5" by Sergei Prokofiev at 8 p.m. in Concert Hall.
The "Get MAD" weekend continues on Sunday, Nov. 13, with a Careers in Music Panel Discussion between 1 and 2 p.m. in the Recital Hall. The panel features Cliff Colnot, Conductor of MusicNOW and Civic Orchestra of Chicago; Brian Dickie, General Director, Chicago Opera Theater; Holly Hudak, Executive Director, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra; Andrew Patner, noted Chicago arts critic; and Matias Tarnopolsky, Senior Director of Programming, Artistic Planning, Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The discussion will be moderated by Donald Casey, Dean of the DePaul School of Music.
A reception will follow the panel discussion, featuring a performance by the DePaul Jazz Combos from 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the School of Music Student Lounge. At 3 p.m., the DePaul Wind Ensemble will perform Igor Stravinsky's "Octet," Samuel Barber's "Mutations from Bach," and "The Winds of Nagual," by Michael Colgrass, in the Concert Hall. The DePaul Percussion Ensemble will conclude the weekend's activities with a performance at 6 p.m. in Concert Hall.
The School of Music and DePaul Concert and Recital Halls are located at the corner of Lincoln Ave., Halsted St. and Fullerton Ave., close to the Fullerton el stop. Free parking is available after 6 p.m. Friday and all weekend in the School of Music lot located at 800 W. Belden Ave. Additional discounted parking is available in the parking structure at 2335 N.
