Following is a copy of the letter sent by several of the concerned property owners on Nov. 15.

Dear Aldermen Daley and Matlak:

We, the undersigned businesses, respectfully ask you to withdraw the Clybourn Corridor Special Service Area (SSA) from the Nov. 23 City Council agenda. We request that this hearing be postponed until such time that an SSA, generally established to benefit local businesses, can be developed that is supported by local businesses. We believe that the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce is not acting in the best interest of the business community with this current proposal.
The majority of property owners, businesses and residents that we have spoken to strongly oppose the SSA. Businesses in this area already pay substantial property taxes and have more immediate concerns regarding infrastructure and traffic improvements. Some of these issues are being addressed in other forums. We wish to evaluate the results of these improvements prior to any planning process that would lead to a SSA.
The planning process for this proposed SSA has not been open and inclusive, nor has the Chamber been responsive to our objections and lack of support for the proposed scope of work. We feel that until a planning process is conducted and a scope of services can be developed in accordance with the needs of the business community, a hearing is premature. We urge you to withdraw this item from the upcoming City Council agenda.
A map representing the properties owned, managed or operated by the undersigned businesses is attached.
