Learn how to stay warm without straining the budget

If high heating costs threaten to leave you cold this winter, you can learn how to help keep them down at either of two Keep Warm Illinois workshops hosted by Truman College in December. The workshops will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the Satellite Room, Room 3416, at the college, 1145 W. Wilson Ave.
Keep Warm Illinois is Gov. Rod Blagojevich's initiative to help state residents, especially the poor and elderly, offset the beating they'll take from the record natural gas prices expected this winter. The workshops, hosted by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and broadcast at community colleges throughout the state, will focus on insulation, weatherizing, heating, water heating, energy efficient appliances, and lighting. The workshops will last about an hour and include written materials, a video presentation, and a question-and-answer period.
You can also check the Keep Warm Illinois Web site, www.keepwarm.illinois.gov, for energy saving tips, a web-based tool to conduct home energy audits, information on energy assistance programs, and other resources. A Keep Warm Illinois hotline, (877) 411-WARM(9276), is also available.
