Red Square Theatre presents “The House That Swift Built,” by Gregory Gorin, at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave. This theatrical fantasy in two acts opens Friday, Jan. 6, at 8 p.m. It runs Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. through Feb. 5. There will be two Sunday performances: Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, both at 2 p.m.
Jonathan Swift did not speak for 20 years. Tormented by Labyrinth Vertigo, he descended into a self-imposed world of silence broken just 10 days before his death with the word “When?” Guided by Dr. Simpson’s prodigious notes, we share the last days of Swift's life as, delusional and hounded by his own creations, he seeks to orchestrate his own legacy.
The play features Damien Arnold as Dr. Simpson, Bob Pries as Patrick, Cecil Burroughs as Mr. Someone, Vanessa Stalling as Esther, and Laura Millet as Vanessa.
