An exhibition of new mixed media paintings by Chicago artist Sandra Dawson will open on Friday, Jan. 6, at Byron Roche Gallery, 750 N. Franklin St., and will continue through Feb. 17. An opening reception with the artist will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and it's free and open to the public. For more information, call the Gallery at (312) 654-0144.
Dawson's work employs more pattern, repetition, and layering of imagery than the more figurative paintings that she exhibited in her previous show at the Gallery. Much of her current imagery is drawn from nature and botanical sources. The figures that do appear suggest folk art imagery, and have a weathered historical look. |
