Local man shot to death

On New Year's Eve, a resident of the 1400 block of N. Sedgwick St. was shot to death on the West Side. Bentrel Drisdell, 24, was walking in the 1400 block of S. Ridgeway Ave. at 1:10 a.m. that morning. Three men pulled up in a silver Ford Taurus and fired at him, then drove off.


Cowan pleads guilty to arson

David Cowan has pled guilty to setting a fire a shed on the grounds of St. Benedict's Church, 2215 W. Irving Park Rd. Cowan, a Lake View resident, was a fireman as well as a co-author of several books about local fires. The incident June 9 occurred shortly after he lost his job as a janitor at the Church. He has been sentenced to three years in prison.


City seeks organizations to employ ex-offenders

The Mayor's Office of Workforce Development (MOWD) is releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP), seeking qualified partners to work with the city to create job opportunities for ex-offenders. Interested parties may obtain a copy of the RFP at the MOWD office, 1615 W. Chicago Ave., at the fifth floor reception desk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Completed proposals must be received by 4 p.m. Feb. 21. Organizations must be willing to offer newly created jobs to individuals with criminal backgrounds. Agencies that are selected will become part of WorkNet Chicago, comprised of over 100 community-based organizations throughout the city.
