Giving voice to budding young playwrights

The Young Playwrights Festival, a play writing program for Chicago high school students, runs through Jan. 29 at Pegasus Players, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., in the O'Rourke Center at Truman College. The three one-act plays provide a window into the thoughts of today's youth as they explore ideas of family, war, sexuality, community, and even zombie invasions. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $12; call (773) 878-9761 or visit www.pegasusplayers.org.
Among the winning playwrights are, from left to right, back row: Mikal McLendon, Brian Tasch, Pavielle Randolph, and Luz Navarro. Middle: Amanda Chehade, Ana De La Luz, Patricia Esparza, and Petra Thomatis. Front and center: Rocio Sandoval.
