Chicagoans won’t need to watch "The Bachelor" on TV after they get up close and personal with the city’s most eligible men at Triangle Neighbors' Charity Bachelor Auction. In support of its ongoing efforts to raise money for Space Park, Triangle Neighbors will auction “dinner for two” packages with up to 30 bachelors—including several local celebrities. The bachelor auction will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at John Barleycorn’s, 3524 N. Clark St.
Space Park, which will be located at 815-817 W. Roscoe St., will be the neighborhood’s newest green space. The park will give local residents an aesthetic refuge from the increasing density of the population.
“Our community has undergone enormous construction growth over the last several years. While this has brought a lot of new people to the area, we no longer have as many front lawns and gardens. Our efforts to create some green space will be a lasting gift to improve our neighborhood and overall quality of life,” said Jim Ludwig, president of Triangle Neighbors. “The Charity Bachelor Auction will be a fun-filled night that people of all ages and orientations can feel good about as we raise money to improve our community.”
The development of Space Park is being led by the Triangle Neighbors, one of the twelve branches of Lake View Citizens’ Council (LVCC). Triangle Neighbors raised funds to help not-for-profit NeighborSpace close on the first lot purchase in the summer of 2005 and hopes to purchase the second lot by summer 2006. The Charity Bachelor Auction is just one of many local efforts to raise money for the second lot.
Winning bidders will receive a complimentary dinner for two at a local restaurant, which may be used with or without the bachelor. Tickets to the Charity Bachelor Auction are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The admission price includes one drink and hors d'oeuvres. Tickets may be purchased by going to the Lake View Citizens' Council office or the Central Lakeview Merchant Association office, both located at 867 W. Buckingham Pl., lower level, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, or by visiting www.lakeviewcitizens.org/auction.asp.
The Charity Bachelor Auction itself will be a combination silent and live auction event. Minimum bids will start at $25 and up. After an initial bidding period, top bachelors will be called back for a live auction.
Local restaurants are donating dinner certificates for the two hour dates. Any businesses or individuals interested in supporting this event can call Ludwig or email triangle@lakeviewcitizens.org.
