Gang members injure opponent, crash car

After an argument earlier in the evening, members of two different gangs encountered each other in Laurie's Liquor Store, 5153 N. Broadway, at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. Two victims from the first gang were in the store when three offenders from the second gang entered and separated them by standing between them. One offender left the store and returned moments later with an aluminum baseball bat. He struck one victim in the back of the head, causing laceration and hematoma. The other two offenders prevented the victim’s friend from coming to his aid. The offenders then fled in a red 2001 Ford SUV.
Police responded to a 911 call and transported the injured man to Weiss Hospital. They toured the area and found the offenders' vehicle crashed into the McDonald's at 1002 W. Foster Ave., with no occupants. Police Beat 2412 stopped a subject and brought him to the liquor store, where he was identified as one of the offenders who had restrained the friend. He was arrested, searched, and transported to the 20th District.
