In the spirit of collaboration, The Dance COLEctive and Colleen Halloran Performance Group will share a dynamic two-part evening of new dance works on Dec. 7 and 8, at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago. This concert marks 16 years of collaboration between artistic directors Margi Cole and Colleen Halloran.
Have you ever wondered why you are where you are in life? How you came to be the person that you are today? Choreographer Colleen Halloran tackles this subject in her new work, “California.” Weaving stories, images, and text of a fateful cross-country trip to California when she was ten years old, Halloran and her group of dancers illustrate the often hilarious and sometimes perilous situations that can occur when traveling cross-country to relocate some 2000 miles away.
Cole consistently challenges stereotypes about dance. Cole’s new works will explore the beauty of a woman’s sensuality and power, while challenging popular images of females in the media and our societal obsessions with specific body parts.
The Dance COLEctive, in collaboration with Colleen Halloran Performance Group, will perform at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, 1306 S. Michigan Ave., Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission; student and senior discounts are available. Tickets are available in person at The Dance Center box office, by phone at (312) 344-8300 or on-line at www.ticketweb.com.
