The LEED Council, Inc.’s board of directors has named Ted Wysocki as its new president and CEO. Wysocki, currently president and CEO of the Chicago Association of Neighborhood Development Organizations (CANDO), has spent 28 years championing community economic development issues in Chicago.
“Wysocki’s community and economic development resume includes experience with industrial retention, commercial development, housing, job training and placement and micro-lending,” said Scott Sonoc, chair of the LEED Council, Inc. board of directors. “We are thrilled to have a leader and visionary of Ted’s caliber joining the LEED Council.”
Wysocki’s appointment is effective Feb. 1, 2002. The organization had been without a director since Carl A. Murrain left to join the Abraham Lincoln Centre in March.
“In addition to furthering LEED’s industrial retention, workforce development and community planning initiatives, our goal is to expand the organization’s role in real estate and transit-oriented development projects,” said Wysocki. “On a personal level, this move gives me an opportunity to engage in economic development issues on the local, community level.”
Prior to his LEED appointment, Wysocki has served as president and CEO of CANDO, and in his 17-year tenure has developed the organization into the largest city-wide economic development coalition in the United States. Wysocki worked closely with the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development to develop the City’s Model Industrial Corridor and Retail Chicago programs, and also helped establish CANDO as a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) to provide micro loans for emerging business enterprises and start-ups through CANDO’s Self Employment Loan Fund (SELF).
Before joining CANDO, Wysocki spent 11 years working with Gale Cincotta at the National Training and Information Center.
